about us

We envision a new status quo for Queer/Trans spaces that centers LGBTQIA2+ folx whose needs are underrepresented in other community offerings, where all people experience radical acceptance, belonging, and joy.

We are a collaborative that got together and asked the community, what can we do? We came up with Queermunity. A planned 8,000 SF building that will house a coffee lounge, meeting rooms, offices, and special events. We’ll offer community programming in partnership with groups, business, and nonprofits already supporting the community.

It’s free, it’s easy, it’s accessible, it’s cozy, it’s playful, it’s not too branded, and it’s adaptable to the ways we change as queer people.

An environment where a self-sustaining, multigenerational community can gather, share information and resources, heal from trauma, and mobilize for change.

A respectful, compassionate, and open space where unique ideas and personal experiences can be shared in community.

To me, it would look like various people in a room that are colorful, laughing, and socializing. Where it's loud, maybe a little chaotic, but it brings comfort and makes you want to join in what they are doing.

The best version of Queermunity is one where we are always listening and responding to community needs. Making this space accessible and welcoming is essential to me.

A community of Queers prospering.

manifestations

Queermunity symbolizes a safer space for LGBTQ+ people to gather and learn about and from one another.

Queermunity means celebration of self and uplifting one another whether that be education, health, or socially.

Places of joy, belonging, and acceptance for those on the loving broad spectrum of queerness.

It is a dream come true! To be participating in the establishment of a community hub for the LGBTQIA+ community at a moment when powerful people are using our lives as bargaining chips-- and give our community a place to build power sustainably, safely with dignity-- is fulfilling, engaging and fun. I am delighted to lend my skills and passion to this project.

A tangible space of hope for creating a stronger queer community in the twin cities.

What does queermunity mean to us?

What does queermunity mean to us?

It means a way for Queer folx to have more opportunities to find the unconditional love we're all seeking. It's an experiment to create more radical acceptance and Queer joy.

Queermunity means a space for queer identities to be free.

A place to scratch that intersectional itch. I can be all of my identities at once and it is welcomed and encouraged.

Queermunity means a lot to me because I hold community building as a core value and goal. There aren't many places that aim to foster that, especially under capitalism, where profit is usually prioritized over people. I appreciate my coworkers' creative approaches on how to make this happen, despite the barriers such a system presents. We are stronger together!

queermunity reminds us of. . .

“There’s magic in being seen by people who understand—it gives you permission to keep going.”

― Alok Vaid-Menon

"If you can't love yourself, how the hell are you going to love someone else?"

- RuPaul

"We cannot seek achievement for ourselves and forget about progress and prosperity for our community... Our ambitions must be broad enough to include the aspirations and needs of others, for their sakes and for our own."

- Cesar Chavez
